Today we I want to share with you Ariel’s story, how she was tragically injured and we were able to save her! My Mom shared Ariel’s story on her blog, and now I am sharing my version here….
Ariel’s Story: How a Girl and Her Mom Saved Their Chicken
One spring day in 2017, it was the first day of summer break, and I had a girl party for only girls! My friends arrived, the first thing I invited them to the chicken coop. The parents were talking outside the coop. Inside the chicken coop it was a little bit too crazy and Ariel’s head was accidentally squished by the trap door. Heartbroken, I sadly handed her to Mom. She was still alive. That night we prayed for her so she will be okay. When I woke up l went to my mom’s room, she was syringe feeding her and she had a toilet paper roll on her neck. Good thing Ariel was still alive! I went to Ariel and hugged her and I gave her some water. I said to her (I am really glad you are still alive) and I gave her some more water. Then Mom put her in the closet and put essential oils on her.
It was the next day, and Mom taught me how to feed her, and so I tried and I did it! So I gave her about 5 syringes of wet chicken food. Then a little more water. After that day Mom told me that she will go on a trip soon will you take care of Ariel for a couple days. “Yes I would really love to” I said.
The day came, I had to take care of Ariel. I said bye to Mom, and went upstairs to check on Ariel. When I got upstairs I gave Ariel a couple syringes of food and water. Then I went back downstairs And made a little chart of how many times I gave food and water to Ariel when Mom was gone. I wrote 2 tally marks on the chart, and checked on Ariel again. Andrew came upstairs to check on Ariel with me, and I gave Ariel a little more food and a little more water, then added a little more tally marks to the chart. Ariel was doing really really good with her broken neck. I was very proud of my sweet little chicken. The day after that I went upstairsv gave Ariel some food and water, added a little more tally marks to the chart, and hugged Ariel. The next day Mom came home, I showed her my chart, and then Mom and we checked on Ariel again. “I’m very proud of you Ellie,” said Mom. “I love to take care of Ariel ask me anytime to take care of her”, I said. The End 🐔
She loves to be cuddled!
We still bathe her occasionally because she has difficulty preening

My second year lavender Orpington, Vera, was attacked by a hawk 4 days ago, and I’ve been frantically searching the internet trying to find answers and resources, Ariel has been my first glimmer of hope during this whole fiasco. Everyone keeps telling me I’m wasting my time and I should put her down, but she’s not just a “chicken”, she’s a member of our family, and as long as she is fighting, then I will continue to fight along side of her. What sort of food did you feed Ariel? Thank you. Thank you for giving us hope Ariel, and your loving family too!

Hi Rachel, so sorry to hear about your sweet Vera. We fed Ariel chick feed: https://amzn.to/2KrTMt9. We mixed it with water and collagen powder: http://www.realfoodrn.com/PScollagen. Then we syringe fed her. We also put Frankincense essential oil on the back of her neck every day. Sending you healing prayers, keep us posted on how she heals.
